Together with our Russian partners and our Moscow-based daughter company, we are working on a design solution for the recovery of landfills for decommissioned pulp and paper mill in the city of Baikalsk on the shore of Lake Baikal.

The landfills containing more than 6 million tons of hazardous waste threaten the unique natural wealth of world importance included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the lives of rare and endemic animal species found in the Lake Baikal and its shores.

The results of the recovery will include:

  • Lignin fuel for a highly effective generation of electric energy and heat in a fluidized bed boiler with a minimal environmental impact - the ecologically generated energy will be supplied to the city Baikalsk and to a new largescale tourist complex currently underway.
  • Valuable soil for the recultivation of the excavated landfills, forest lands affected by fire, as well as industrial premises, especially in the vicinity of the pulp and paper mill´s facility.
